The Origin of the Rainbow Essences
The Rainbow Essences were born under extraordinary circumstances. On July 4th of 1991 Renata gave birth to a beautiful and tiny baby girl who unfortunately only lived for half an hour, she became our family angel who we named Rosie. This half hour was a powerful experience during which we gave her back to spirit and shared the gift of her short life as a powerful prayer.
We decided that if we went down into despair at some time in the future we would rise up out of it, be it three days, three weeks or three years we would recover. So why not stay up and accept and enjoy Rosie’s life for what it was. It was as if she got off the bus but decided to jump back on it. Her hand as large as my nail held onto my thumb as she slowly slipped away. We cried and prayed our way through the following days trying to come to terms with the loss and not understanding what was being held in the future for us as a couple in our connection to this beautiful soul. She was alive but not in the way we expected her to be. Rosie had come to be our family and guiding angel and she showed herself clearly a few days later.
During Rosie’s pregnancy Renata’s was very ill, she was grey with no energy, each day she could only be with the family for an hour or so and then she had to return to bed for more sleep; my acupuncture practice fell apart being divided between child caring for Joy our one year old daughter helping Renata and seeing patients something had to give. I had been making flower and gem stone essences according to the methods of Dr Edward Bach and using them to help Renata’s health; we began discussing over these days how we could combine the flower and mineral essences to balance the human energy field. A picture began to unfold of each of the chakras being a vortex with high and low tonal qualities, and that the gemstone essences would anchor and the flowers would activate the variable harmonies within each chakra. We combined this with our knowledge of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the energetic functions of the Conception Vessel (Ren Mai) and Governing vessel (Du Mai) that act as reservoirs for the human bodies Yin and Yang Qi respectively.
Twelve days later for my 40th birthday Renata’s friends organised a surprise party neither of us were in the mood for chit chat and party making, our experience with Rosie was far too painful and deep. Renata cancelled the invitations and we spent the day dowsing out the combinations by placing crystals and flower essences that correspond to the known chakras, or vortexes of energy on the human body’s midline. We discovered that the energy system was expanding, above the head there were three out of body whirl pools of light, gold for the potential for enlightenment and the higher self, silver for the soul family and white for past lives, in the head violet for clarity on the crown, indigo for intuition on the forehead and sky blue on the throat for expression, on the heart green for healing, yellow on the sternum for strength, the belly orange for the sacredness of sex, and base red for conditional relationships. Below the feet black corresponding to an anchor within the earth and connecting to the silver above the head.
When we returned to the heart we found that the dowsing rods indicated that we were not seeing the complete picture, so we added pink for opening the heart energy to love. Still something was missing until we placed a piece of pink tourmaline above the heart on top of the thymus; this is the thirteenth chakra, the upper heart flame which is connecting all the energies of the chakras below and above to the heart. At that precise moment there was a knock at the front door, we opened it to find that Renata had forgotten to cancel one guest for the party, and Lisa stood on the doorstep with a huge bunch of wild sweet peas, the exact colour of the pink tourmaline! They were placed in a vase on the bottle and crystal packed table and as if a perfectly harmonious wind swept through the house the dowsing rods eased through the energy field like a hot knife through butter; the twelve present energy centres were activated, connected and set in perfect balance by the thirteenth chakra above the heart. Like the moon phases of the year the Rainbow Essences had found their place within the power of the natural law, they were born and Rosie our new angel daughter was there, silently guiding us into this enormous gift.
Sixteen years later and Rosie is still guiding us on this strange and illuminating path of making the Rainbow Essences and their relationship to the evolving body energy field available to a wider audience. The essences are growing very much like a teenager going through the trials of fitting into social expectation and rapid change. Recently Rosie told me that I must trust the process that is happening, Renata and I are the stewards and we are responsible for the quality of the experience that comes with using the Rainbow Essences. Each bottle is carrying intent harnessed from the Sun and Moon, water from all over the Earth, flowers and gem stones harvested and cleansed with love, our personal belief and our experience as a growing team.
Rainbows keep appearing at the most magical times indicating that the Rainbow Essences have a place in this powerful time of transformation. On Rosie’s 14th birthday a huge rainbow appeared over our house, it stayed hovering in a golden mist for 20 minutes in the brightest colours I have ever seen. At the moment of Renata’s mothers death a rainbow materialised in a white cloud straight above my head, in the science of the rainbow an anomaly.
Why are the Rainbow Essences associated so strongly with death, you may ask? Death is transformation, it means “Changing Form” Constantly we are challenged with little deaths, where we have to release, watch form change around us and let go, practicing for the great inevitable opportunity. It is in our reality and ability to let go with least resistance which can create the maximum opportunity for each of us to grow, and to process life and our personal metamorphosis with minimum stress.
These Rainbow Essences are made on the coast of Southern Britain, three miles back from the sea. Behind us are the South Downs, rolling high hills made from chalk and flint that terminate as the mighty white cliffs of the Seven Sisters and Beachy Head, these flowing hills are the fossils and bones of our ancestors. A land of ancient tribes, druids and teachers; the air, trees, flowers and stones carry the healing memory of those who have been here before us. We drum and sing to their memory requesting their presence in our ceremony as we make the Rainbow Essences under the sun, moon and stars.

This is our time people of the rainbow you who come from all cultures and are of all the colours of human possibility, you who have no nation but that of the living upon the Earth. This is our time to bring gifts that come from the blend of spirit, sky and Earth. There are gifts for all people that come from the abundant healing potential that is contained in the nature that surrounds us in this beautiful world.
Flowers of trees and herbs that grow in the wild woods and gardens, flowers that bloom in floods of colour and scent, filling the landscape with healing as the wind blows their perfume into the stale air of the cities and towns. Gemstones, precious to the touch that have been lifted out of the dark depths of the Earth are bathed and blessed. Their anchoring power of transformation is known and invited into this toolbox of beauty, the consciousness of these mineral brothers and sisters bring stability and ancient information into the process of growing within maximum change.
